Exercising with lash extensions, five things worth knowing before your next workout

You work out. You have lash extensions. These two facts do not conflict, but there are a few things the gym environment does to lash adhesive that are worth understanding before you walk into your first spin class post-appointment.

Sweat, heat, and friction. Those are the three things that will shorten the life of your extensions if you ignore them. Here is how to handle each one.

The first 24 hours are the only window that matters

Fresh lash adhesive needs time to cure fully before it encounters moisture. That window is 24 hours. During that time, skip any workout that produces significant sweat: running, cycling, hot yoga, weightlifting. A gentle walk or a slow yoga flow is fine.

After 24 hours, the adhesive has set and you can return to your normal routine. The restriction is short and specific. It is not a reason to reschedule your workout schedule around your lash appointments long-term.

Apply a lash sealer before you train

This is the step most clients do not know about. A lash sealer, the same product applied at the end of your appointment, creates a protective coating over the adhesive bond. Applied 20 to 30 minutes before a workout, it gives your extensions a barrier against sweat and oils before they have a chance to break down the bond.

Patty applies sealer as the final step of every appointment. The same product is available to purchase and use at home between appointments. If you train regularly, keeping one on hand and applying it before workouts is the single most effective thing you can do to extend the life of your set.

Greasy products on the brow line will migrate

Sunscreen, moisturizer, and pre-workout lotions applied near the eye area will travel downward when you sweat. Once they reach the lash line, the oils in those products start working against the adhesive. Apply any product that contains oil or heavy emollients below the brow bone, and keep the area immediately around the eye clean before you train.

Wiping your face with a towel will pull lashes

Reflexively dragging a gym towel across your face is one of the most common ways clients lose extensions prematurely. The friction and the lateral pulling motion snags the extensions and weakens the bond. Instead, blot: press the towel gently against the skin and lift away. It takes about three workouts to make it automatic.

Heat breaks down adhesive faster than anything else

Hot yoga, steam rooms, and saunas run warm enough to soften lash adhesive over time. A single session will not ruin your set, but consistent exposure will shorten retention noticeably. If hot yoga is a regular part of your routine, expect fills slightly more often and apply sealer before every session without exception.

Cold or room-temperature water is fine. The issue is sustained, high heat, not water itself.

The extensions Patty applies are designed to move through daily life with you. These are not fragile. They just have a few specific vulnerabilities that, once you know them, are easy to work around.

If you have questions about aftercare specific to your set or your lifestyle, bring them up at your appointment. Every client's routine is different and the advice should match.
